چکیده

This study aims to assess health effects caused by organophosphate pesticides exposure among farmers (n=35) and non-farmers (n=35) in Sisa Krabue sub-district, Ongkharak district, Nakhon Nayok province. The research design of this study was a cross-sectional study during pesticide application period from January to March 2013. Questionnaire and Test-mate ChE (Model 400) for blood cholinesterase levels of both blood enzymes erythrocyte cholinesterase (AChE) and plasma cholinesterase (PChE) were used as measurement tools. Participants were consisted of 25 male and 45 female; average age (±SD) was 42.63 (±10.41) years old. The results showed that AChE levels of farmers was likely lower than non-farmers and PChE levels in the farmer group was significantly lower than those in non-farmer group (t-test, p<0.001). The association between AChE levels and PChE levels were likely low negative correlation. Years of using pesticides were significantly associated with PChE levels (Chisquare, p<0.05). The farmers were significantly associated with increase eye symptoms, central nervous system (CNS) symptoms, respiratory system symptoms, and gland symptoms (Chisquare, p<0.05). The AChE level was significantly associated with CNS symptoms (Chisquare, p<0.05) . The PChE level was significantly associated with eye symptoms, CNS symptoms, respiratory system symptoms, and gland symptoms (Chi-square, p<0.05). In conclusion, farmers may be getting higher risk than nonfarmers living nearby/around farming area. An appropriated self-prevention from pesticides exposure should be recommended to farmers and non-farmers; particularly, a proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) should be introduced to farmers.

Background: This study has used biomarker of exposure-effect continuum to examine the biological characteristics of organophosphate (OP) toxicity and its genotoxic effect among rice farmers. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 160 pesticide exposed rice farmers and 160 adults from the fishing village as the unexposed group. They share the common socio-economical ...

POEM model application feasibility with Diazinon poison with using from cholinesterase activity level measurement of farmers in the west of Iran

Introduction: The most common of farmers' occupational exposure is exposure to pesticides. Organophosphate pesticides (OP) are widely used in agriculture to control pests. The main mechanism of Organophosphates (OPs) toxicity is irreversibly inhibiting of Butyl cholinesterase and acetyl cholinesterase. POEM model (Predictive Operator Exposure Model) was made to assess exposure and absorption of...

An association between organophosphate pesticides exposure and Parkinsonism amongst people in an agricultural area in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand.

BACKGROUND Parkinson's disease (PD) is a ubiquitous disease. However, PDs prevalence in the population of agricultural communities lacks understanding and there has been no epidemiological study on the association between pesticides exposure factors and risk for PD. OBJECTIVES To investigate the potential association between organophosphate pesticides exposure and Parkinsonism by using a scre...

ارزیابی میزان تماس کارگران شاغل در گلخانه با سموم آنتی کولین‌استراز از طریق پایش بیولوژیک

Background and Aims: Organophosphate compounds are the most popular insecticides with the widespread application in pest control. These toxic compounds interfere with the blood cholinesterase and inhibit the cholinestarse activity.Measurement of Cholinesterase activity is widely used for diagnosis of poisoning and adverse effects caused by pesticides. Green-house workers are one of the import...

Cholinesterases Enzymes Activities as Biomarkers of Farm Workers Exposed to Organophosphates in Two Communities of Khuzestan, Iran

Organophosphate (OPs) compounds are widely used in intensive agriculture to improve production, protect crops and control diseases vectors. The main mechanism of toxicity of OPs is the inhibition of the Cholinesterase enzymes. In this study the acetylcholinestrase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and specific acetylcholinestrase (SAChE) activities as potential biomarkers of exposure to OPs ...
